20 Nov Somewhere between the Venice Biennale and Burning Man and the Salinas Rodeo

We always like to position the Art Party somewhere between the Venice Biennale and Burning Man and the Salinas Rodeo. (We figure this kind of knocks out the competition.) Truthfully, though, we’d never been to either the Venice Biennale OR Burning Man, and though Mark HAS been to the Salinas Rodeo, I can’t say he is a true fan.

So when David Middlebrook (whose sculpture is featured here at Art Party 2011) told us he would be exhibiting in Venice this year, we decided — if we were going to be serious about this — we needed to go have a look. And look we did. We did not fall in the canal…or in any of the exhibits (which were quite dark…and I was wondering if you could get away with doing that in the US without getting sued when someone tripped) and we saw A LOT of art. (I will report more about our adventure when I figure out how to put more photos into a blog posting.)
