Spoken Word

Weren’t you going to finish that manuscript?

Weren’t you going to finish that manuscript?

The Spoken Word Lounge

— think literary café meets Irish pub meets dive bar —

might inspire you to do just that.

Or just listen to people who have.

THE SPOKEN WORD LOUNGE

THE SPOKEN WORD LOUNGE

“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”

— Oscar Wilde

From the four directions of the Bay Area and beyond, a stellar gathering of poets, performance artists and prose writers brave and brash enough to rise above the background buzz of small talk and clinking glasses will lay to waste those musty notions of literary readings as something too difficult to enjoy while slightly inebriated. Charming, entertaining, moving, surprising, provocative, hilarious, or stimulating—these are the witty strangers at every party you’d like to know better. Performing for ten minutes or less in short sets followed by live music, you might have a chance to buy them a drink and do just that, or at the very least, take one of their books home with you.
