Sparrow an eclectic creative source. She traces her untamed sound to the cold pine forests of her home state, Maine where she grew up listening to the gritty folk and honest soul. Since in San jose she’s immersed herself in various art scenes, spreading herself like wildfire. As a vocalist, she explores jazz, bossa nova, new soul, and incorporates her knack language, in spoken work and lyricism. Not only is she part of Fatale as a visual art organizer, but Fatale has been an integral platform for her evolution as a performer.
With a velvety voice that goes down like smooth wine, 23-year-old soul-meets-jazz singer Jackie Gage a fast rising star in the Bay Area. It’s easy to be caught in her sound, with a grace and soulful beauty that channels torch singers of decades past. This San Jose native is an awardee of the inaugural Leigh Weimers Emerging Artist Award by the San Jose Rotary Club (July 2013) and GenARTS (August 2013), a 2014 Jazz Search West finalist—which awarded her performances at Yoshi’s Oakland, the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, and The Sound Room in Oakland—with notable past performances at the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest (2012, 2013), and multiple residencies at nationally recognized club Blackbird Tavern, among others. Her cutting-edge work champions ladies in the scene, both within her future funk side project The JurassiC, and in curating and hosting weekly female-focused artistic showcase Fatale. Look out for this one; Gage is working on her debut album, Ladies, set for release in 2015, and will be touring across California with this new music.
Ren Geisick is a Downbeat award recipient for Outstanding Undergraduate Jazz Vocalist as well as the Ella Fitzgerald Scholarship recipient in the jazz voice program at Cal-State Long Beach. Ren has been featured in the San Jose Jazz “Eye on the Scene” blog series and her rich style and emotional deliver has allowed her the opportunity to play with some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians.
Erin Honeywell is an award-winning Bay Area vocalist and songwriter who has entertained crowds all over the western United States and parts of East Africa, and Brazil with her rich and soulful sound. With heavy influences including Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Erykah Badu, Ms. Honeywell has a sound well beyond her years, easily flowing from subtle jazz melodies that take you away to hard-hitting funk and soul-grabbing R&B. “Erin Honeywell is simply an inspired soul singer”–Mike Yoffie, B3, (OTIS).
Steely Nash is a solo artist, songwriter and vocal producer based in San Jose, CA. She studied musical theatre at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts in Chicago, IL. TV creditAmerican Idol S10 San Francisco/Hollywood/Vegas Episodes, ABC’s ‘Nightline: Pop Star Boot Camp’ Episode, Winner of Cambio and AT&T’s ‘On The Spot’ a global online and interactive talent search to form the next Supergroup managed by Johnny Wright. She has recorded and toured with Y6, The Bang: A 60’s Girl Group Review and Steely Nash & The Cuts. She is thrilled to be a part of what she believes to be a fantastic evening of female talent!
Fatale is a Wednesday Showcase at the Blackbird Tavern; we present weekly art-focused showcases at the Blackbird Tavern, centered around female talent. We strive to offer a space for exchange; hosting an artistic renaissance in San Jose by inviting local, regional and influential acts into this local space, to grow it into a staple event. There will be music, poetry, comedy, spoken word, visual arts, life art, and much more.
