Artist’s Statement

In “Chairback For David Ireland,” I’ve used parts of chairs that were once regaled and held prestige, but are now aged and rendered useless. I’ve structured them into form with table legs, now worn and layered with the patina of layered paints.

As in a great deal of my work, I have incorporated part of an instrument, in this case the neck of a violin. Combining table legs, chairs and instrument parts, I imagine sitting back and listening to the voices and music that once flowed from the kitchens and parlors where these objects once lived.
